Here’s a cool Family Reunion Idea that’s an American classic and never goes out of style no matter how old you are!
It’s something to eat…it’s sweet…AND it’s everyone’s favorite childhood treat!
It’s prepared over an open flame and it’s a camping favorite! The ingredients are: graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate. Yep, you’ve guessed it! It’s S’mores!!! This sweet tasty treat is believed to have gotten its name from frequent requests for “Some More” whenever they were made.
Before I go any further, let me just say that this post is not about S’mores as some new family reunion idea because they have been a favorite for many a families and family reunion bonfires and cookouts for decades. Besides it’s a classic that has its own holiday. National S’mores Day is celebrated yearly on August 10 in the United States. Therefore there’s no reinventing the wheel here.
However, I’m about to share with you is an ultra creative way one couple incorporated this camping tradition into their wedding reception. Traditionally, S’mores have been made over an oven bonfire and many people think you can’t have or enjoy them without a large bonfire, but you can. This couple shows you how to accomplish it with that outdoor campfire and bonfire flare; however, without being outdoors, having no actual bonfire, or the Paula Dean microwave method.
I found this sweet idea over at www.thedjservice.com and thought this would be great for a family reunion. I got permission from the awesome DJ Kenny share the idea on my site and use some of his images. So, here’s what this creative and crafty couple did and you can do likewise.
HOW TO CREATE AN OPEN FLAME NO CAMPFIRE S’MORES BAR
1) BASKETS (4 or 5 each): Fill each basket with the following S’more’s ingredients: Marshmallows, Hershey Bars, Graham Crackers, Graham Cracker Bits for dipping, Reeses Peanut Butter Cups. If you want to REALLY jazz up your S’more Bar use different chocolates (dark, peanut butter filled, caramel filled, chocolate with almonds, peanuts, rice crispies, etc. There is no “right” way to make a Smore. Anyway you like it, is the right way.
2) SKEWERS: Theses are exactly the same type of skewers which are used for Shish Kabobs (you can find them at any grocery store). Place them in a nice glass or another container.
3) PROVIDE FLAME STATION: Create an Open Flame without building a campfire. Here’s how…You’ll need to get a Long Basket, fill it with Stones and add 3 Open-Flame Food-Warmers.
4) PLASTIC DESSERT PLATES: Ooops….Don’t forget these! The little small ones.
I absolutely love creativity. Moreover, I love sharing creative things and ideas with my family reunion family.
I also love S’mores! They are so good that most of us can’t get enough…they have us begging, Gimme “Some More”!
